The 1.2 km long recreational route in Smedsby, the centre of Korsholm, joins together several parks and playgrounds. The route starts from Källängsvägen and continues all the way to the Vaasa city boundary. The recreational route is maintained in winter so it can be used throughout the year.
The first stop along the route is Olav playground. The playground has quite exceptional outdoor playing equipment. Climbing cubes are perfect for 10–13 years old and another rare speciality is a carousel with a climbing net.
After the playground, the recreational route leads to Körsbärsdalen. Körsbärsdalen is an activity park with a well-equipped outdoor gym for seniors, a boule pitch and benches to rest on under a shady pergola. There is also an interactive arch that invites to dance and play or perhaps you want to play a memory game with the play panels on the ground. In the middle of the park, a lovely pond gathers storm water from the nearby ditches and gives a soothing addition to the beautiful surroundings.
The recreational route continues to the other side of Centrumvägen with a pedestrian underpass. On the other side of the road lies Äppeldalen, a former apple orchard which has been restored as a recreational park. The apple trees blossom in the spring and you are welcome to taste the sweet apples when they are ripe for picking.
Lastly, there is a rhododendron park that flourishes in the forest close to the Vaasa city boundary. Rhododendrons thrive under the canopy of trees and love the companion of pines and spruces. During the springtime, the recreational route offers a visual spectacle when the cherry trees, apple trees and rhododendrons bloom in vibrant colours.
The recreational route ends by the cycle lane connecting Oskarsvägen and Johansvägen. The route can also be accessed via Torgvägen and Smedsbyvägen.
